Unable to install WebLogic

Problem:

When installing BEA WebLogic from the command line, the following error appears:

Step 1 – Installation preparation.
WebLogic was unexpected at this time.

Solution:

Remove spaces from folder name:
Rename E:stagingCDImagesBEA WebLogic to E:stagingCDImagescd849-WebLogic.

Invalid parameter for GetAttachment()

Problem:

After running the following process:

Instance: 7082
Type: Application Engine
Name: GL_JRNL_IMP
Description: Flat File Journal Import

The following error appears in the message log:

Invalid parameter for GetAttachment(). Check environment variable PS_FILEDIR in process scheduler. (5825,118)

Solution:

In My Computer, navigated to E:PSOFTFS900webservPSOL_fsdmoinstalledAppsPSOL_fsdmoNodeCellPSOL.earPSOL.warhtmldoc

Searched under this htmldoc directory for all files containing PS_FILEDIR.

In file:///E:/PSOFT/FS900/webserv/PSOL_fsdmo/installedApps/PSOL_fsdmoNodeCell/PSOL.ear/PSOL.war/htmldoc/eng/psbooks/fglr/htm/fglr07.htm#d0e5496

the following appears:

You must define an environmental variable, PS_FILEDIR. This variable defines the temporary flat file location on the process scheduler that runs the file import process. If you have a Unix or OS390 process scheduler, you define this in the psconfig.sh file. If you have an NT process scheduler, you define this in the control panel [Micro Focus XDB Server for NX 5.1 Service Controller]. Please refer to the GetFile PeopleCode reference for more details or contact your system administrator.

Setting PS_FILEDIR in Microsoft Windows Environments To set the PS_FILEDIR environment variable in Microsoft Windows environments:

Close any open DOS windows.

On your desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and click Properties.

The System Properties dialog appears.

Click the Advanced tab.

In the Environment Variables section, click the Environment Variables button.

The Environment Variables dialog box appears.

In the User variables for section, click New.

A New User Variable dialog box displays.

In the Variable Name field enter PS_FILEDIR.

In the Variable Value field, enter c:.

The path you specify is the location from where the system will upload files.

Click the OK button to exit the Environment Variables dialog box.

Click the OK button again to exit the System Properties dialog box.

Cloning of Production Instance

#

Step

Estimated duration

1. Prepare the test machine (echo) that shall be used as the new production machine for cloning:Remove any existing E-Business Suite instance on the machine. Ideally, reinstall the operating system, apply any required service packs, install the additional software such as JDK, Visual C++, MKS Toolkit etc. The software should be installed to the same directory paths as those on the production instance. If the test machine will not reinstalled, then remove the Oracle-related keys from the registry.

1 day

2. Carry out the pre-clone steps for the production instance (adpreclone.pl).

½ day

3. Shutdown the production E-Business Suite instance (application and database tier services) and copy the files from the production machine (delta) to the test machine (echo).

1 day

4. Disconnect the production server from the network. Change the name and IP address of the test machine (echo) to that of the production machine (delta). Update the ‘hosts’ file on the new production server, so that it now contains the new IP address and hostname.

1 hour

5. Clone the new production server. Run the clone scripts on the new production server (adcfgclone.pl).

½ day

6. Perform stress-testing of the new server to ensure that it responds suitably to the load.

1 day

7. Backup and test recovery of the instance on another server.

1 day

Please note:

1. Ensure that the Database processes are properly shut down before proceeding to copy the files; if files aren’t copied correctly, the cloning process would not be executed correctly.

2. Do not run the Gather Schema Statistics concurrent job on the new PROD instance.

Export Function Not Working

Steps to reconfigure exporting in Oracle Applications:

1. Set System Profile Options ‘Export: Mime type’ to ‘text/tab-separated-values’

2. Setup your browser and Windows Explorer with this new mime type (if using Internet Explorer) :

– start Windows Explorer
– choose menu Tools => Folder Options…
– click on ‘File Types’ tab
– click on ‘New’ button to add a new type: File Extension: tsv
– click on ‘Advanced’ button and complete with: Associated File Type:
‘Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated File’ (select it from the list)
– enable ‘Automatic prompting for file downloads’ option from Internet
Explorer: menu Tools => Internet Options… Security tab => click on ‘Custom Level’ button => ‘Downloads’ section

Next, run the “Rebuild Help Search Index” concurrent program as follows:

1. Log into PROD
2. Choose the System Administrator responsibility
3. Navigate to Requests > Run
4. Choose “Single Request” and press “OK”
5. In the Name field choose the process “Rebuild Help Search Index”
6. A box with parameters will popup – leave the defaults and press “OK”
7. Press “Submit” to run the report
8. To view the progress of the process navigate to Requests > View and find all requests.

6. Install a printer (any printer will do, for example EPSON FX-80)

7. Make directory C:TEMP. Point environment variable to TEMP, TMP and TMPDIR to C:TEMP.

8. Install MKS Toolkit to C:mksnt.

9. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 to C:VC98. Apply Visual Studio Service Pack 3.

10. Unzip GnuMake to a temporary directory (e.g. C:TEMP). (No need to install Zip/Unzip and Java. Run ‘which unzip.exe’). Recompile GNU Make by running VCVARS32.bat and then changing to the GNU Makebin directory and running build_w32.bat (TWICE). Change to the WinRel directory and copy gnumake.exe to c:mksntmksnt.

Installing Oracle Applications 11i Checklist

This is a list of steps to check for when installing Oracle Applications.

Step 1:        Ensure that hostname and IP address are in hosts file. Under Windows, ensure that in the hosts file, the hostname is in the following order:

127.0.0.1                    localhost.localdomain                       localhost

xx.xx.xx.xx               hostname.domainname                   alias

Step 2:        Ping machine. It should return:

C:> ping alias

Pinging hostname.domainname [xx.xx.xx.xx] with 32 bytes of data:

Step 3:        Create domain user applmgr and ensure that it is assigned to the Administrators group of the local machine.

Step 4:        Install Visual C++ 6.0 to C:VC98 and apply service pack 4

Step 5:        Install Cygwin to C:cygwin (see Metalink document “Using Cygwin to Maintain Release 11i on Windows” Doc ID:302859.1 for packages to download).

Step 6:        To compile GNU Make, run VCVARS.bat from Visual C++ directory and in the gnumake-3.79.1 directory, run build_w32.bat twice. Copy gnumake.exe to c:cygwinbin (or C:mksntmksnt).

Step 7:        Install Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 or later SDK. Copy file from Microsoft XML Parserlib to C:VC98lib.( 11.5.9)

Step 8:        Install Java SDK 1.3.1_18 (11.5.9) (or 1.3.1_15?)

Step 9:        Install Perl (download ActivePerl from http://www.perl.com) (11.5.10)

Step 10:   Copy zip.exe and unzip.exe to C:mksntmksnt

Step 11:    Ensure that all files are on the path:

which gnumake

which perl

which zip

which cc

which link

Modify path if necessary to include: C:Perlbin; C:cygwinbin;C:VC98bin.

Step 12:   Ensure correct versions of Perl and Java installed:

Perl –version

ActivePerl version should be v5.8.8

On Linux, Perl should be 5.003 or later

Java –version

Should be 1.3.1_18

Step 13:   Set TEMP and TMP environment variables for user applmgr to C:TEMP.

Step 14:   Check manual on startCD for instructions on directory structure (11.5.9).

Step 15:   Set up staging area.

Changing DNS Settings on TSTT Paradyne Router

After setting up TSTT’s Internet Broadband, users sometimes have difficulty accessing web sites. The user must click the Refresh button several times before the site loads. By default, TSTT’s ADSL router is configured to use TSTT’s DNS server. This DNS server is not very reliable. This documentation shows how to change the DNS Settings on TSTT’s Paradyne router to point to the freely available OpenDNS servers.

Step 1:        Load the web browser (for example, Internet Explorer).

Step 2:        In the Address Bar, type http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter.

Step 3:        The web browser prompts you for a username and password to log into the router. Enter admin in both fields. Then click OK.

Step 4:        The Paradyne ADSL CPE page appears showing the router’s settings.

Step 5:        Using the menu to the left of the page, navigate to Advanced Setup > DNS > DNS Server. The DNS Server Configuration page appears.

Step 6:        By default, TSTT’s DNS Server IP addresses will appear in the fields. Make a note of the current DNS server settings in the event you need to revert to them.

After this, ensure that the Enable Automatic Assigned DNS is unchecked. Enter the following new IP addresses into the fields. Then click Save.

Primary DNS server 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS server 208.67.220.220

After saving the changes, the router must be rebooted. This can be done by unplugging the router, waiting ten seconds and then plugging back in the router. The router will detect the new settings and begin using them.

To learn more about OpenDNS and the advantages it provides, navigate to the web site http://www.opendns.com.
